Setting Up Sales Tax / GST on Quotes and Invoices

How sales tax, GST and PST are handled between Repair-CRM and QuickBooks Online.

Written by Laszlo Malinovszky

Repair-CRM doesn't calculate tax itself. QuickBooks Online does it when the invoice is created. Here's how to set it up so your invoices come out right.

How it works

  • Jobs and quotes in Repair-CRM show amounts without tax.

  • When you create the invoice, QuickBooks adds sales tax, GST or PST based on the item's tax setting, the customer's tax setting and the customer's address.

  • Canadian QuickBooks Online with GST/HST/PST works the same way.

Set it up

  1. In QuickBooks, set up your tax rates/agencies and mark items and customers as taxable or non-taxable.

  2. Make sure customer addresses in QuickBooks are complete.

  3. Whenever you change tax settings in QuickBooks, re-import the tax data in Repair-CRM (QuickBooks integration settings).

Quotes

Quotes don't include tax. We can add a fixed note such as "Tax not included" to your quote template – just ask support.

Common questions

Can I set a tax rate in Repair-CRM?

No, there is no tax-rate setting in Repair-CRM.

Tax is wrong on an invoice

Check the customer's and item's tax settings and the address in QuickBooks, then correct the invoice in QuickBooks.
